Italian drawings, From the collection of Giorgio Vasari

This is the seventh volume in the series Drawings in Swedish Public Collections and the third devoted to Italian drawings.

This book deals with about eighty drawings, the vast majority from early Renaissance Florence, that as far as can be seen constitute what remains of one of the volumes that formed part of Giorgio Vasari's famous Libro de'disegni. In it he gathered the study material on which he based his epoch-making work on the life of the Renaissance artists in Italy. This covers everything from subtle sketches made in silverpoint to powerful studies of the monumental works that adorned the churches and palaces of the rich Florentinge merchants.
