Swedish - light, shape, landscape

Ingalill Snitt is a photographer with a mind of her own, a highly personal way of seeing and selecting motifs. Together with Marita Jonsson she has travelled through Sweden in search of the Swedish soul. Is it to be found in our love of nature? In our sense of form and design? In our architecture? There is no explicit answer, but the pictures speak of a desire for infinite snow-covered expanses, wind-worn cliffs by the sea, bare façades, and pure, simple forms for everyday objects. Ingalill Snitt’s photographs capture how the landscape and the changing seasons affect our lifestyle, as Marita Jonsson’s text explains. All modern form and design has its roots in history. We find the sources in the rock carvings of Tanum, in medieval churches like the one in Åre, in the magnificent, greying farms of Hälsingland, in the cosy rococo interiors and the austere design of the Gustavian era. A large part of this book is devoted to showing how these roots are reflected in modern homes and in the creations of our most famous designers and architects.
