The prose rhythm of Sallust and Livy

This thesis is concerned with the prose rythm, in the form of metrical sentence endings (or clausulae), of the Roman historians Sallust and Livy. For the purpose of investigating these clausulae a new statistical method is introduced. This is called the method of internal comparison: its value is demonstrated by a short examination of the clausulae of Cicero, whose prose rythm has been studied in detail by several other scholars.
